Diagnostic dentistry helps us determine the condition of your teeth and mouth, and is a thorough dental check-up using a variety of tools and techniques to ensure all is well in your mouth.
Your check-up begins with a visual examination of your mouth by a qualified dentist to examine the overall condition of your teeth and gums. We’ll be checking to make sure that:
- Your gums fit snugly around your teeth
- There are no signs of gum disease
- Your tooth structure is sound with no early signs of decay
Another part of diagnostic dentistry is to ensure your teeth meet together correctly. Teeth that meet together incorrectly can be a symptom of teeth grinding. Symptoms include a popping sound when you open your mouth, and teeth which appear worn or cracked.
Safe Low-dose X-Rays
In addition, we will be looking out for any signs of other diseases, and will thoroughly examine your oral tissues to make sure there are no colour changes or lesions. We may want to take dental x-rays to help us to see what is going on below the gums, as these assist us in determining the bone level, and to check that there is no decay present.
This is also your chance to discuss any dental problems you may have with us, and to let us know if you have any sensitivity or pain in any of your teeth.
If our examination does uncover any problems Drs Ben Swindley or Dan Howes will discuss all the options with you. Early diagnosis is always less painful for both you and your wallet, so if you have any symptoms give us a call to make an appointment with one of our friendly dentists. We always try to make room in our appointment schedule if you are in pain.
